Part Seven: Vancouver

August 2018

Part Six of our Canadian Rockies Road Trip Adventure.

The visibility warnings were replaced by fire warnings as we approached Vancouver.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All the hotels had been booked for us so we waited in expectation to see the next one. What a surprise we got! The Sutton Place Hotel in Vancouver was in a different league to all the others. Doormen, valet parking, concierge, room service, wow!

The view from Room 724 in day time.....

...and night  time.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We're now in Stanley Park, 1000 acres of magnificent gardens, woodland, aquarium, paths and an amazing 28km of uninterrupted coastal path, the longest in the world. This method of touring covered a small area and had a very knowledgeable guide who loved the horses.

More wildlife mucking about.

These totem poles all had meanings and stories which were explained on display boards.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nanny has a friend of 50 years who lives in North Vancouver. We had arranged a visit so one day we walked to the harbour ferry and crossed to North, caught a bus and walked a block or two to her home. Beatrijs lived very close to the Lynn Canyon suspension bridge and falls. And no, the bridge did not sway as much as the Whistler one. (see right)

The only reason we put this picture of Mummy here taken in Beatrijs' garden is that Daddy loves it so much.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The change in the weather on our last day was a bit of a concern as we had tickets to see  an open air production of 42nd Street in Stanley Park. That's three times now! Twice in London and once in Vancouver. This was a smaller production but still great - and the weather stayed dry. What away to end our holiday!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We stopped for supplies and lunch in Squamish. This was a colourful indigenous town and provided a pleasant break from the journey.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is this really our hotel?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Daddy has no idea what he or his phone did to this photo of Mummy and me but we had a good laugh! Evening meal, outside again, but no views.

What looked like Christmas lights came on on our way back to the hotel.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stanley Park is only 500m from the edge of the city centre so we were able to walk it. We cheated one evening and took a bus back; well it was 10.30pm and we were flying home the next day.

There were surprises round almost every corner such as a family of racoons searching for food......

..... and a black squirrel doing the same.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lynn Canyon suspension  bridge.

As we left Beatrijs' Daddy managed find an old British motorbike. Actually it found him as it was parked next door.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We explored different parts of the city including Gastown with its steam powered clock.

As you can see, the weather has changed for the worse. This was our final day, luckily.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

End of Part Seven.

That's all folks I'm afraid. We hoped you like our taste of Canada.
